Makaha / Waianae and the Leeward coast
The beautiful west coast of Waianae (Leeward) was a fishing ground in the olden days. The word Waianae means water and mullet fish. At 4,025 ft. high, Mt. Kaala of Waianae mountains was Oahu’s highest peak. Waianae is also the home of the first sugar mill, Waianae Sugar Company, on the island.
Home construction in the area took off in the 1960s and 70s. Today the area is mostly made up of beachfront condos and SFR (single family residences). The condo medians price for 2017 is approx. $150,000 while the median price for SFR is approx. $450,000.
It’s close proximity to Ko Olina resort town (Disney Aulani hotel, Four Seasons hotel, and future home of Atlantis hotel, etc.) and Ewa Plain (another hot spot of new townhomes and SFRs with a vibrant retail and commercial presence), along with its beautiful coastline, make this a perfection location for those who wants to live away from the city.
