Diamond Head, known as Leahi in Hawaiian (which means the brow of the tuna) was so named back in the 19th century by British sailors who mistakenly thought shiny calcite crystals they’ve found on the crater’s slopes were ‘diamonds’. Today Diamond Head is a famous tourist attraction for hiking with panoramic views of Waikiki and the island.
Roughly located in the area that stretches between Waikiki to Kahala, today Diamond Head is an exclusive neighborhood consists of upscale homes along the coast. Main attractions include Diamond Head Crater, Farmer’s Market at Kapiolani Community College (KCC), Kapiolani Park (which hosts the Honolulu Marathon finish line as well as numerous annual festivities), Kaimana Beach, Honolulu Zoo, etc.
