In Hawaiian, Kailua means ‘two seas’ or ‘two currents’, so named possibly because of the two lagoons or the two currents that run through the area. Located about 20 minutes from Downtown Honolulu on the Oahu’s Windward area along with Kaneohe, Kailua is known for its long stretches of beaches along Kailua Bay that includes Kailua Beach Park, Kalama Beach Park, and Lanikai Beach. Beaches in Kailua have been named ‘World’s Best Beaches’ for years. The area is also made famous by former President Obama’s annual holiday stays in the area. One can find exclusive and beachfront homes in the Lanikai and Beachside neighborhoods.
Besides its beaches, other attractions in the area include - Mid-Pacific Country Club, Kawainui Regional Park, Pillbox Hike (Ka’iwa Ridge Trail - a short hike with panoramic views of the Lanikai Beach and features 2 military bunkers), Kailua Town Farmer’s Market, etc.
